Starting Nov. 24, we
offer supplementary seminars to the course of Quantum Mechanics (TP3, Prof. Polyakov).
The aim of the seminar is to give interested students an opportunity to study advanced topics related to Quantum Mechanics.
We plan to discuss and work out the following topics:
- 1) Supersymmetric QM
- 2) Quantisation of systems with constraints
- 3) Path integrals. Instantons in QM
- 4) Quasiclassics and Maslov index
Each of these topics can be developed into a Bachelor work!
First meeting: Nov 24, 10ct, NB6/167
- 22.05.2009
Last week the BaBar collaboration reported very interesting resuts on exclusive processes in two-photon collisions.
See
talk of Selina Li at PHOTON 2009 conference in Hamburg .
The most surprizing results are presented on pages 16 and 17!

On Monday, March 16th we organize
a special session HADRONS AND CHIRAL SYMMETRY in honor
of Professor Klaus Goeke.
- 23.02.2009
June 8-10 in Edinburgh we organize a workshop on New Narrow Nucleon N* (NNNN).
We plan to discuss exciting possibility that there exist a narrow excitation of the protons and neutrons which could be overlooked in the past.

The LEPS group at SPRING-8
accelerator in Osaka announced confirmation of their pioneering signal for
exotic baryon Theta+. The LEPS group lead by Takashi Nakano were the first who
reported evidence for Theta+ exotic baryon in year 2003. Now, after 5 years of hard and careful work, they confirmed their pioneering observation with new data.
Their new paper gives details of their elegant analysis and presents very strong and consise
evidence for the existence of Theta+.

Starting Nov. 24, every Monday (8:30, NB6/173) we offer supplementary seminars to the course of Theoretical Mechanics (TP1, Prof. Polyakov). The aim of the seminar is to give interested students an opportunity to study advanced topics related to the Theoretical Mechanics. We plan to discuss and work out the following topics:
- 1) Solitons
- 2) Classical String Theory
- 3) Parametric resonances
- 4) Introduction to integrable systems. Adiabatic invariants
- 5) Lagrange mechanics on manifolds.
Interested students are cordially invited to take part in the seminar!!!

It is decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2008 to Yoichiri Nambu for "for the discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics", and to Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa "for the discovery of the origin of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature". Dr. Nambu is awarded for his works on spontaneous breakdown of chiral symmetry in strong interactions. The physics we are working on !

Paper by Kuznetsov and Polyakov about observation of a non-strange member of the anti-decuplet "New Narrow Nucleon N*(1685)" is published in a recent issue of the JETP Letters. Also, take a look at the short story by V. Nabokov "The Circle" (in Russian is here).

We (Kivel, Polyakov, Vladimirov) have found a way to compute leading chiral logarithms (LLs) essentially to an unlimited order, see our preprint 0809.3236 and results for LL coefficients up to 33 loops:)
